New Schools Planned for 2019
Our Board has agreed that we will build news schools in Malawi and Sierra Leone - funds permitting.

All our schools and villages get clean water
We have schools in six villages in Sierra Leone. In some places the existing wells were not functioning. We have repaired wells in all of the villages and depending on funding we will sink more wells in 2019.
Fighting Hunger in Sierra Leone
During our recent visit we were shocked to hear that hunger had returned to the villages of Sierra Leone. We have started a food security programme in two villages and seed, fertilizer and sheep and goats have been delivered under the supervision of Alimamy Samura.

School Opening in Malokotera Malawi

Irish foundation builds school in Malokotera
Located in one of the hard to reach areas in Mzimba North, Malokotera Primary School is surrounded by hills and tobacco farms.

Over the years, learners in the area have been walking an average of 7 kilometres to access primary education and 17 kilometres to the nearest secondary school at Enukweni.
Situated about 20 kilometres off Mzuzu-Karonga M1 Road, the school has a total enrolment of over 400 learners.
Pupils show their delight
The project has been funded by an Irish benefactor, Schools and Health Foundation, which according to its Chief Executive John Mitchell, believes education is an effective tool to free societies from poverty. Schools and Health Foundation is engaged in such projects in four African countries including Malawi. The Lions Club of Mzuzu partnered SHF in the project.

Liam's Walk raises €6000
The annual Liam’s Walk on Saturday 14th of April in Blarney helped to raise over €6000 for the work of Schools and Health Foundation. Thanks to The Castle Hotel, Ian, Una and the staff that hosted the refreshments, to Supervalu Tower who supplied the water and Phil Cone of Academy Crests who supplied the T-Shirts at no cost. A special thanks to Liam’s friends, colleagues and management of PM Group who continue to remember him and support the charity so generously. And finally to our family and friends that supplied the food and helped in so many ways.
Robombeh School Sierra Leone Opens
There was joy on the hillside when this school in Sierra Leone was opened on 2nd June.
There was a strong Irish presence—Niamh Wiseman, Ailish Casey, Nicole Murphy and Sally Hickey from Scoil Mhuire Cork with their teacher and SHF founder Bernice O’Brien, Fiadh Maguire from Colaiste Choilm and CEO John Mitchell.

St. Oliver's Drogheda Helps SHF

Students in St. Oliver’s Community College, Drogheda raised over €320. Ms Edwina Nolan who previously taught in Scoil Mhuire Cork supervised this great work.
Slim Lot of Good
The Schools and Health Foundation were kindly invited to Garryduff Sports complex on Wednesday 27th April by Dr. Brian Wiseman. Brian’s daughter Niamh is one of the students from Scoil Mhuire Cork who is travelling to Sierra Leone in May. Brian is part of a fitness group called Fat Boy, Slims led by Paul Sheridan. The group generously donated €530 to the Foundation. The funds were handed over on their last night of training for the season and the occasion was also attended by former Scoil Mhuire girls Ailbhe Boland, Sarah Healy and Leah Soden. The girls spoke beautifully of their trips to Africa and their intention to keep in touch with the Foundation. (Report by Jackie Manley)
