Again this year we commemorate Liam Manley who was one of the people who inspired the setting up of this foundation who sadly passed away two years ago.
On 14th April we will gather at noon in Blarney Hurling Club for a walk to remember Liam and to raise funds for our work.
Pupils from Blarney National School donated €200 towards our work. St. Kilian's German School in Dublin raised over €500. Students from Colaiste Choilm in Ballincollig joined oor long-standing supporters from Scoil Mhuire Cork in a stree collection that raised €4000!
At the Prize Night on 1st February the award for international community work was give to Leah Soden, Sarah Healy and Roisin O'Donnell who fundraised for the Liam Manley School in Sierra Leone and then attended the opening. They are pictured with SHF founders Bernice O'Brien and John Mitchell.
Our Project Supervisor Alimamy Samura reported to SHF that the well in Rogballan Madina where we maintain the school was broken. We sponsored the repair and this is the result:
St. Mukasa School in Dwarzon, Margibi County, Liberia will be completed in four weeks time according to the contractor. John Mitchell visited the site on 12 Feb and he believes that it will be the best school built so far by SHF and its founders. It will have electricity and hopefully a good water supply. Provision has been made in the design to add a second floor which can be used in the future for a secondary school. The school is under the auspices of the Catholic Archdiocese of Monrovia and caters for children of all beliefs. The teachers are well-trained and 20 of them will cater for over 200 children.
Our school in Malokotera, Malawi is on schedule for an official opening in April
The foundation stone was laid for the new SHF school in Robombeh, Sierra Leone on 31 December.
