Cameroon Projects

Cameroon is home to a forgotten war. The civil war in the Anglophone region has resulted in many deaths and hundreds of thousands of displacements.

The SHF school in Koano was closed for a long time and it has reopened in a restricted way. One of the teachers was shot dead by government troops.

The Irish government advises against travel and the area where SHF operates is dangerous.

Nevertheless, in cooperation with partners ESARDEF led by Etang Mbeng we have managed to contribute to health and education. Jointly with US foundation Global Pearls we funded an ultrasound machine in the Eyumojock District Hospital helping to lower maternal and infant mortality.

Our scholarship programme continues in Debundscha school.

Work is progressing slowly at the water scheme in Efah where we have funded the piping to renew the scheme.

Zambia

Working with Richard Salunoka we continue to improve the school in Chitukuko, Lusaka. We have funded more desks, computers, painting of the whole school and re-roofing. It will be re-named SHF Chitukuko Community Primary School in October when an SHF delegation visits.

Feeding Programme Commences in Zambia

Chitukuko community in Lusaka, Zambia is busy at the moment with three SHF projects in progress under the guidance of our contry representative Richard Salunoka. Construction is taking place to rehabilitate the pre-school and a feeding programme has started for the pupils in this very needy community. Later we will fund desks for both the primary scholl and the pre-school.

Cor Geal Choir Supports SHF

The renowned Cork choir Cor Geal has generously agreed to perform a series of carol services in support of the work of SHF.

Proceeds from these magical events will help to improve the lives of children in Africa.

We are very greatful for this sdisplay of generosity.

Cór Geal was founded by its conductor & musical director, Betty Fitzgerald in 2009.

It is a 4-part mixed choir of some 55 adults based in Whitechurch, Co. Cork. It’s varied and uplifting repertoire includes Irish, sacred, popular, jazz, classical and contemporary music. Cór Geal has become renowned for its exciting and popular choral concert productions presented every two years.

Over the last 14 years, Cór Geal has raised thousands of euro for charity and has enjoyed much success in choral competition. Activities carried out in the choir include rehearsing, performing, travelling, and generally having a good time together. Cór Geal adds to the diversity and social inclusion of community life, provides musical education for members, and is happy to sing anywhere from the local Church to the Cork Opera House.

Betty Fitzgerald Musical Director – “Nothing activates as many areas of the brain as music. Singing is a stimulating experience which triggers all sorts of positive energy in the mind and body, and social interaction is the best way to shake off the blues. Put it all together, and you get Cór Geal singing at its best.

With a spirit of togetherness, we value and respect diversity, create a positive and fun experience for our members and most of all promote harmony in our community and wider society”.
